On Sunday, March 16th, Vespers was served in Holy Trinity Church, 220 Carnarvon St. New Westminister, at which Vancouver Orthodox priests of many different nations were present (including: Greek, Romanian, Russian, American, Ukrainian and Syrian).
Every year the Orthodox Brotherhood of Vancouver chooses a site to hold a Vespers service at on the first week of Great Lent in commemoration of the Triumph of Orthodoxy.
This day serves as a symbol of Orthodoxy's triumph over iconoclasm and heresy. This year, for the first time, the honour was bestowed upon the Romanian Church at 220 Carnarvon St. New Westminister.
Our Church, a member of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, also took part in the celebration with great joy. Being present in such a prayerful and joyful atmosphere, surrounded by Orthodoxy of a universal sort, one begins to understand that even far away from home we can be one.
The location of the next Triumph of Orthodoxy service will be announced the clergy of each parish.
